Proper hygiene is one of those things you've probably been learning about since you could walk-washing your hands, taking a bath, brushing your teeth, and putting on clean clothes each day are all elements of good hygiene that has been instilled in us since we were young.

However, sometimes people don't make hygiene their priority for a number of reasons. Maybe they're too busy chasing the kids around and getting them ready or feel like they are always in a rush or too tired to take proper care of themselves.

Regardless of the reason, good hygiene is important for your health and appearance. The following are a few tips to help you get motivated to have better hygiene:

Treat yourself.
You'll be more motivated to have better hygiene if you treat yourself to some new products. Go out and get new shower gel, shampoos and conditioners, even new toothpaste or a new toothbrush. Experiment with trying a new bubble bath and treat yourself to a relaxing soak after a long day.

Think of your health
If you are neglecting certain aspects of your hygiene, your health could suffer as a result. For example, if you are prone to skipping brushing your teeth or flossing, think of the health ramifications you could face down the road. Not brushing or flossing regularly can lead to tooth decay, which is expensive and painful to fix. Gum disease is also common and can cause you to eventually lose your teeth. Having poor hygiene, like not washing your hands after using the restroom or sneezing, can also cause you to become physically ill. This should be great motivation to have better hygiene!

Fit it in.
Some people skip showers, washing their hair, teeth brushing, and other things that would keep them clean and well-groomed because they're in a rush and it takes too long. If you find that you are rushing around in the mornings and don't have time to shower, start taking showers and washing your hair the night before.

Make it convenient.
There are all sorts of products now that make hygiene convenient. For example, hand sanitizers can kill germs on your hands if there is no way to wash your hands. Travel sizes of mouthwash and toothpaste can fit in your purse or desk drawer. You can also set out your hygiene products all in one spot so you remember to use them all. Put your deodorant by your toothbrush or your hairbrush so they are all easily accessed.

Know that other people notice.
Chances are at some point, you have been around someone with poor hygiene. Bad breath, body odor, dirty hands and nails, and other unappealing things all indicate a lack of good hygiene. Remember that if you don't take the time to shower, brush your teeth, put on deodorant, and wear clean clothes every day that other people will begin to notice your poor hygiene as well. No one wants to be the one who smells, so think of this the next time you skip brushing your teeth or go another day without showering.

Good hygiene is important for a number of reasons. It keeps you healthy and clean and shows other people that you care about your health and cleanliness. If your hygiene has slipped towards the bottom of your priority list, these are a few tips to help you get motivated to have better hygiene.
