How to motivate others to succeed

Success is a great feeling. It is one that can not be compared. In our lives we all want to achieve success. Often times it takes the help or motivation of another for us to achieve success. Being that person who motivates another to achieve success is very rewarding, so, how can you help to motivate others to succeed? The following are four simple ways for how you can motivate others to succeed:

1. Example: By setting a good example of work ethic, stamina, and a will to win, you will help to motivate others. Many inspirational stories, and motivational stories center around average people achieving extraordinary accomplishments. These people motivate us through their example, we see someone who is normal, ordinary, or not as skilled, and see them achieve greatness and we think we can too. So, be that example to others. Show others how normal and ordinary you are, and how even with no exceptional talent other than the talent to get motivated and work hard, you have achieved success. Through example, you will motivate others to seek for and achieve success.

2. Encouragement: All of us need a little extra push along every now and again, and we have all had that special person in our lives that has helped us achieve greater heights than we would have otherwise because of their encouragement. So, to motivate others to succeed, you need to focus on being encouraging. Part of being encouraging is verbal encouragement. Praise goes a long way with small children when trying to teach them habits, behaviors, etc. it works equally well with adults, we just tend to forget that. So, part of encouraging others as a form for motivation to succeed is positive reinforcement, and praise. It is also important to encourage others through supporting them, whether this is showing them you believe in them by supporting them financially, or by supporting them with your time. If you want to motivate your child to succeed in sports, you better go to their sporting events. If you want a startup company to succeed in business, you show your support in another way, through funding. However, encouragement and support a vital to motivating others to succeed.
3. Reminders: A great way to help motivate others to succeed is through visual and verbal reminders. This means when you see them doing activities or habits that are not producing the results they are working towards that you give a verbal reminder. This also means that you post reminders visually. If you are trying to motivate someone to succeed in their weight loss program, put a visual reminder like a skinny pair of jeans, or a bathing suit up on the wall. If you want to motivate someone to get better grades in school, put a note on the mirror asking if they are "Working hard, or hardly working?" Often times it takes these kick in the seat of your pants reminders to get you to get motivated to succeed. So, motivate others by posting reminders where they will see them often.
4. Rewards: one way to motivate others to succeed is to provide more motivation than just the success. This means reward steps towards success. So, their goal is to lose weight totally forty pounds. When they lose their first five pounds, take them to a movie, when they lose fifteen, buy them a gift, when they hit thirty, do something else nice, and at forty, take them to Hawaii..or something. For most of us the satisfaction of success is not motivating enough to get us to work as hard as we should, so if you want to motivate someone to succeed, no matter what they are doing, business, school, or even weight loss, you may need to add some additional rewards for motivation.
