How to motivate yourself to eat a healthier way
We all want to be healthy. We all want to look good. We all want to feel good. But, when given the choice between a carrot stick and a piece of cheesecake, we don't all choose the healthier option. So, how do you motivate yourself to eat a healthier way.
1. Don't buy unhealthy foods. How can you be motivated to eat a healthier way if every time you open your refrigerator and pantry you are inundated by junk foods, quick fix foods, nutrient low foods, sodas, chips, crackers, cookies, ready made, and easy to grab unhealthy foods. When the unhealthy is readily available and easier to get at and eat then the healthy, how high do you think the chances of you eating a healthier way are? Not very. When you are hungry you want food now, so if you do not have the unhealthy foods on hand, you are more likely to choose a healthier option.

2. Buy healthy foods. This goes right along with number one, just as you should not have the unhealthy foods on hand, you should have the healthy. If your fridge is loaded with fruits, water bottles, and vegetables, you are more likely to eat one of those than go to the store or gas station for a soda and candy bar, bag of chips, or whatever your poison is. So, stock up on healthy options, then make them easy to eat and get to. This means, to motivate yourself to eat a healthier way you need to make it easy for yourself. So, when you get home from the grocery store with your fruits and vegetables, take a few minutes to wash, cut up, and prepare them so that when you want a snack, all you have to do is open the fridge and pull out a bowl of fresh melon, already sliced and ready to be eaten.
3. Learn about benefits. A great way to motivate yourself to eat a healthier way is to learn and educate yourself about the various benefits of eating healthy. You can go online and see the affects that eliminating certain foods can produce. You can learn of people who eat healthy diets and live for years longer than the average person. You can learn that they not only live longer, but in better health. The more you learn about the benefits of something, the more motivated you become to make those benefits hold true for you.
4. Learn about drawbacks. Part of being motivated to eat healthier is to learn the drawbacks of eating unhealthy. Go online and in a matter of minutes you can learn about hundreds of different diseases, ailments, and conditions that are a direct result of poor nutrition, and not eating in a healthy way. When you see the consequences of your current way of eating you will be far more motivated to change those ways of eating and make healthier choices.
5. Support groups: part of staying motivated to do anything is having support. Just like alcoholics who are trying to quit and stay motivated to quit meet in groups, etc. the same holds true for eating healthier. Talk to your family, ask them to not offer you unhealthy food choices. Talk to your friends, tell them your eating and health goals, and enlist their help and support. You will be surprised by the number of people who also want to eat healthy, and you can collaborate efforts and be more successful.
