How to motivate yourself to keep a cleaner home
We have all flipped on the television, or flipped through a magazine at the grocery store to see Martha Stewart's smiling face and spotlessly clean and organized house. How did that make you feel? Well, if you are like any other person, you probably felt inadequate and down on yourself for not having as neat and organized a house. Well, don't feel bad. The following are some tips to motivate yourself to keep a cleaner house.
1. Recognize your potential.
When you look through those magazines and see shows on television of perfectly clean and organized homes, you have to realize it is because they are on tv and in a magazine. Martha Stewart does not keep her house clean all by herself, she has people. So, instead of getting down on yourself, and letting yourself get overwhelmed with how far you have to go, take it a little at a time. Recognize that with the right efforts, you too can have a cleaner more organized home.

2. Take it a little at a time.
Next time you are on the phone, and know it is for the long haul, pick a drawer that needs organizing, and organize while you chat. If you little by little keep things clean, and don't let things get worse, you will be more motivated to keep your house clean. However, if you clean your house once a week, and it takes you ten hours, and throughout the week you let it get back to filthy again, then it will take you ten hours again. However, on the other hand, if you do ONE good clean, and then clean as you go, you can clean less often, and keep a cleaner house. So, hang your clothes up, wash laundry as it accumulates, not when you are out of underwear, and rinse your dishes as you finish eating, and stick them directly into the dishwasher. This way you never have to devote huge time chunks to cleaning your home.
3. Spend some money.
Often it is the first step that is the hardest. When your home is really messy, it is hard to motivate yourself to get it cleaned up. However, if it is just a tiny bit messy, it is easier to keep it clean. So, if you can't motivate yourself to take the first step, hire someone else to do it for you. Once you have dished out cash to get your house clean, you will be more conscious of when you let spilled applesauce dry onto your floor.
4. Invite people over.
One of the best ways to motivate yourself to keep a cleaner home is if you regularly have guests over. No one likes to have people over when their house is a mess. So, if that is what it takes to keep your home clean, have friends over a few times a week for games, dinner, or just to watch your favorite television shows together. You will find that you will want things to look nicer, and then you will find that you like when things look nice, and you will start doing it for yourself instead of just for your guests.
5. Set aside some time.
If you get busy, cleaning can be overwhelming, you do not know where to start, and it seems like things just get messy again, so why clean? Right? Well, one great way to motivate yourself to keep a cleaner house is to devote a day, or a few hours of a day to cleaning. Then when that day comes, and something more fun comes up, you will wish you did not have to clean as much, and you will feel more motivated to keep things cleaner so you can go out, or have people over, and not have to worry about a messy house.
