How to recognize the symptoms of stress

Life can be stressful. We all experience different things that can put a lot of pressure and burden on our lives. We experience stress when we are faced with a tough situation that we find hard to handle or sometimes almost impossible to take care of. Stress can be a good thing if we can handle it. For example, stress can push you to do what you need to do, such as study for an exam instead of going out with friends. But, when the stress gets too high and we are unable to cope with it, one's well being can be jeopardized. There are so many reasons why people stress. It can be caused by wedding plans, preparing for an exam, unrealistic expectation, family matters, the environment they're in, poor decisions, or negative attitude about things. So how do we tell that someone is experiencing stress?
Stress affects our mind, body and behavior in many different ways. The specific signs and symptoms can vary between persons. But most of these symptoms can affect a person's physical and mental health and also their relationships with others.

Stress symptoms include, memory problems, indecisiveness, confusion, poor judgment, depression, getting angry very easily, lack of confidence, anxiety, headaches, fatigue, chest pain, irregular heartbeat, over eating or eating less, isolating self, neglecting responsibilities, nervous habits, drug use or increase alcohol use, weight gain, decrease in sex drive and more.
Keep in mind that the signs and symptoms of stress can be caused by other psychological or physical problems, so it's important that you talk to your doctor to evaluate any physical symptoms that you might have. Similarly, emotional symptoms such as anxiety or depression can be caused by other factors other than stress.
So if you think you have some or most of these symptoms you need to talk to your doctor about what you're experiencing and they might be able to help you out. Find some ways to help you eliminate stress and be happy again. You can start by doing something you love to do. If not, find a hobby. Whether it's hiking, gardening, or simply going for a walk, you need something that would take your mind off work and things that are stressing you out. Joining a group of people in your neighborhood that have the same hobby is a great idea also. You'll eliminate stress by making new friends and have great fun. It's good for your mind and body also. This will help reduce stress and increase your level of productivity.
If you've had a stressful day at work, try to make your time at home less stressful by doing productive things with you family. Forget the dishes and all the cleaning that needs to be done. Gather the family and go for a walk, or put in a good movie, make some popcorn and sit down and relax. If you live alone and have no family nearby, call a non-profit organization and see if you can come in to volunteer. Helping others is a great way to de-stress yourself, by bringing more meaning, increased self esteem and stronger relationships to your life. You'll make great friends and be productive at the same time forget about all the things that are making your life stressful.
If you think you know someone that is going through stress right now, make sure to be a friend to them. Invite them into your life and help them improve their self esteem. You'll be happy you did.
