How to stay motivated
Whether you're trying to lose a few pounds, finish up a project, or get straight A's in school, chances are you have some sort of goal in life you would like to accomplish.
Accomplishing your goals requires motivation. Motivation is the drive that keeps you going and allows you to push through obstacles you face on the way to reaching your goal. Without motivation, it's difficult to reach your goals.

If you are working to accomplish tasks or goals but feel like your motivation is fading, the following are a few things that will help you to stay motivated:
- Write it down. Whatever it is you hope to accomplish, it's a good idea to write it down and post it somewhere you will see it frequently, such as the front of the refrigerator, in your purse, or on a bathroom mirror. This constant reminder of what you are working towards will help keep you motivated because it is always in the front of your mind.
- Give yourself a time limit. When there is no end in sight to something you are trying to accomplish, it's difficult to stay motivated because the task seems ongoing. If you are not working on something that has a set deadline, such as a work project or school assignment, give yourself a time limit. This will create some urgency. For example, if you are looking for a new job, make it a goal to have applied for 10 jobs in the next 5 days.
- Make a plan. It's difficult to stay motivated for something if you don't know how to you are going to accomplish your goal. That's why it is important to make a plan. For example, if you have a goal to go back to school to finish your degree, sit down and plan out how you are going to make that happen, from applying for financial aid to meeting with a counselor to deciding which classes you will take. Having a plan keeps you motivated because it shows you that your goal is reachable and gives you a way to accomplish it.
- Visualize. A great way to stay motivated when you are feeling discouraged about your progress is to visualize your accomplishments. For example, if you need help getting motivated to stick to an exercise regimen, think of how great your clothes will fit and how much more confident you will be if you stick with it. Or, if you need to get motivated to clean the house, think of how nice it will look and how proud you will be of your clean home. Visualization is a great motivational tool and often the push needed to keep going.
- Reward your progress. If you're lacking motivation and need a little push to stay motivated, consider rewarding yourself for sticking with your task. Let's say you have a long paper to write. Record your favorite show and don't allow yourself to watch it until after you have written 3 pages. Or, if you are working hard to lose a few pounds, treat yourself to a new pair of shoes after you lose 10 pounds. Often the thought of the reward is a great motivator to keep going.
Regardless of the goal you are trying to accomplish, you will need to stay motivated to reach it. These are few things you can do to stay motivated.
