How to use the motivation process
Being motivated is not as easy as snapping your fingers or saying, "Ok, I am motivated now." There is a process that creates motivation within yourself, and when followed correctly getting motivated and staying motivated is easy, however, you first must know how to use the motivation process.
First you need to determine what it is you want to be motivated to do. Is it to lose weight? Is it to work harder? Is it to do your work? Is it to do your homework? Clean your house? Be a better friend? Neighbor? Spouse? Parent? There are plenty of things to get motivated to do, so if you want to have the motivational process work for you, narrow it down.

After you know what you want to get motivated to do, it is time to set up some steps to get there. Let's take a look at an example. You determine you want to get motivated to do your work since you work from home, and there are so many distractions such as kids, neighbors, and the television. So, the steps you take to do that would be:
First you would set up a space just for work.
Eliminate distractions from that space, including phone and television.
Now, set yourself a schedule
Schedule time devoted to work
Shut your door
Find a babysitter
Schedule breaks, including bathroom, lunch, and relaxation breaks.
Make your schedule realistic
Set up rewards for accomplishments
Last but not least, part of the motivational process is removing your distractions. This was covered some in the above step. However, it is a very important part. If you do not remove your distractions, you will not stay motivated for long. So, for the motivational process to work, you have to not just get motivated initially, but stay motivated. So, determine your distractions, and remove them. For example, if you are trying get motivated to diet, you would want to remove all treats.
Let's take a look at these steps and how you use them in a real life situation to get the motivational process to work for you:
1. You are tired all of the time. You do not fit in your clothes well. You are getting soft around the middle. You are busy, and find when you want a snack or get hungry that some chips, a PBandJ or fast food fit the ticket. So, you determine you want to eat healthier so that you look and feel better and have the energy to accomplish the tasks you have throughout the day.
2. You have determined to eat healthier. So, you step up your eating healthy steps:
a. I will drink a glass of water each morning.
b. I will include fresh fruit with my breakfast meal.
c. I will keep granola, fresh fruit, and veggies, on hand for snacks.
d. With lunch I will eat at least one fresh vegetable.
e. I will eliminate or decrease the amount of soda and coffee I drink.
f. I will have fresh fruits and vegetables available with each meal.
g. I will keep a variety of fruits and veggies on hand at all times.
h. I will learn healthy, tasty recipes.
i. I will keep a water bottle with me throughout the day.
j. I will limit my processed and refined foods to one item a day.
3. Now you have your goal, your steps for achieving it, and it is time to remove the distractions. So, you need to go to your cupboard, get rid of all processed and refined foods, sugared foods and cereals, processed, packaged, and unhealthy, nutritionless foods. You will make a grocery list to take to the super market with you so you do not go up and down the isles and buy unhealthy snacking options.
The point of making the motivation process work is making your task easier and manageable. That is what the process does, it breaks it down into simple steps and clear objectives so that you do not get too overwhelmed.
