How to work harder

Hard work is the key to getting what you want in life. There is nothing that you cannot do, if you set your mind to it. Hard work is something that many of us were taught as children. Yet as we age and become accountable for our own actions, many of us see working hard as optional and therefore abandon hard work for work that is sufficient or average. Working hard is not necessarily difficult to do, especially if in working harder you are also working smarter.
A hard worker is not necessarily someone who spends every waking moment in the office. A hard worker is someone who knows how to get things done. A hard worker is smart, innovative, and fast. As you contemplate the benefits of becoming someone who works hard, consider the following suggestions for improvement:

Take time to gather your thoughts
Being a hard worker is just as much about brainpower as it is about rolling up your sleeves to get something done. Each day, think about the tasks that the day will hold. Organize your thoughts. Make a schedule that will help you to meet your deadlines. Write down the details of a job that you want to be sure and remember. Prepare yourself mentally for the emotional trials that you could encounter in your workday.
Know what you have
Considering what materials you have will be a big factor in knowing how hard you are able to work. Maybe the materials that you have to work with are hindering your ability to work hard. Consider making a small investment in improving what you have. Something as small as buying a box of colored paper clips in order to be more organized can have a large impact on your ability to work your hardest.
Delegate
Sometimes working harder means knowing when to pass responsibility onto someone else. Perhaps your day is filled with busy work or work that does not challenge you and is therefore a waste of your time. Consider assigning this work to someone else so that you can really delve into the meat of your workday. The same is true in the home. You can work harder at trying to be there for your kids by passing on some of your less essential responsibilities to others.
Communication skills
Work on your communication skills and you may be surprised as just how much more you can get done in the day. The way that we communicate says a lot about our method of working. If, for example, we have the need to constantly defend our actions, this thought process hinders our ability to focus on other aspects of our work. If, on the other hand, we develop the ability to effectively communicate our feelings, the time wasted stressing over the perceived verbal attacks decrease and we are once again able to focus on the task at hand.
Consider time
Working your hardest is not about being perfect. Working hard involves finding the most efficient way to do a job well, given the restraints of time, money, and information that you have been given. A hard worker knows when it is better to step away from a project for a while because the time being spent on that project is no longer productive. Considering time when trying to work hard is also important, as deadlines are a necessary part of productivity. There will be times when the time that you have may not allow you to do that best job that you think is possible. Being smart with what time you do have and coming up with a plan for using that time wisely is a great way to work harder and smarter.
