See it in your head: If you dream about what you want to accomplish, no matter what the goal, you can achieve the results you're looking for. See it in your head, considers what life will be like when you achieve your goal and how it will be different from where you are today. Take time to write out the pros and cons of accomplishing this goal. This is a perfect way to put it into a more realistic context. Realistically, there will be ups and downs to achieving this success and you can help avoid those negative feelings by considering the cons before you invest in the effort it will take to accomplish your goal.
Once you've set your sights on a particular accomplishment, write it down with specific details. Don't be afraid to quantify your dream with the specifics of your vision. You'll be referring to this vision often in the future, so take time to write it out thoroughly and completely, include how your life is now and how different it will be once your reach your goal destination.

Identify the steps to achieve your vision: Taking on a vision in one step is almost certainly a disaster waiting to happen. If you break it down into steps you'll have a map that helps you get from where you are now to your goal. if you have more than one goal, write each one down separately and the steps that go along with each one. It's ok to start small and work up to smaller achievements within the major vision. For example, if' you're goal is to become more physically fit, you'll need to exercise, but you probably can't start out with running a mile the first day. Take baby steps such as walking your first mile without stopping.

From time to time relook at your overall vision of success based upon the individual steps you've identified in order to accomplish your vision. Make sure it is something you can actually achieve and that the steps you complete really do lead to the overall success of your goal.

Identify a way to measure the progress of your goals. This tool will help you evaluate whether you are getting closer or not. If you're walking that mile, chart how many days it takes until you're able to run the full mile, or until you've reached a point where you can walk multiple miles without stopping.

Hold yourself accountable: After figuring out the steps needed to accomplish your goal and a tool to measure your progress, determine certain timeframes in which you'll check your progress against your baseline to make sure you're doing what you need to. You can ask someone you trust to help you meet your goals. Make yourself accountable not only to yourself but to this other person. He or she can help you stay on track and can be a source of advice when challenges arise or you're feeling overwhelmed with the tasks.

Do something every day: Even if it's a small action, do something every single day. You will need to raise the stakes a little more as time goes on, in order to keep yourself motivated, but keep yourself moving forward. Your attitude will play a big role in how you achieve your goals, so stay focused and positive as you work hard.

Staying motivated: Rewarding yourself as you reach certain accomplishments within your destination goal is a terrific way to stay motivated. Do not punish yourself for slipping backwards, but rather focus on the positive outcome and achieving results that are measureable. If you start to feel like your motivation is slipping, just reevaluate your steps and make a new plan of progress that helps you reach the same result. As you go along, you'll find that your path to your destination may be slightly different than the one you originally mapped out.
