Identifying ways to improve your self-worth

clip71731932.jpgFinding out who you are and who you want to be is a challenge for 80% of Americans. We are given so many options and pulled into different directions that we don't know what we want. During this we find ourselves lost and we feel as if we don't have any self-worth. Living among friends and family that we love can sometimes be a challenge also. We may feel like we are compared to one other or other members of your family or friends are loved or are more beautiful than you are. Keeping our self-worth and self-confidence high can be a difficult challenge. Identifying what makes you feel this way is the first step to improving your self-worth.

Find out what self-worth means to you. Is it the way you feel when you are with your family and you feel compared to your sister who you think is more beautiful that you or your brother who you think has a better sense of humor than you do. Or is it your friends you hang out with. Your friend who is a blonde and skinny and is always the center of attention, is she making your self-worth less? Self-worth starts with you. You have to be the starting point to bring your self-worth and self-confidence up and keep it up. You can ask some of your family and friends to help you, but most of the time; you have to use the do-it-yourself method. Use saying, phrases or even pictures to help you become more self-confident. You can put a saying on your mirror that you see every day or write a saying down that you can put in your wallet or purse that you see every time you open it up. Pick a picture of somewhere you think is beautiful and maybe one day travel too. Post this picture at work or at home and every time you look at it, remind yourself that you are just as beautiful as that picture.

Listen to yourself and your body. When you are feeling down or "in the dumps" listen to what your body needs. We feel a lot of self-doubt when we are going thru a rough time in our lives. You may be switching job, moving to a new city or state, meeting new friends and growing up. These are all things that can affect how we feel about ourselves. When you go thru a change, you need to listen to what your body needs. Compare it to you running a couple miles and needing a drink of water. Your body is telling you that it is thirsty. Your body does the same thing when you are feeling down. It will tell you what it needs.

A lot of times we feel like we are stuck and our self-worth hit a low. This can happen in our jobs, school, family and home life. Time for a break, take a vacation and see the world. Statistics show that if you take a weeklong vacation from work once a year, you will feel rejuvenated and ready to attack your job again. Plan a vacation a couple months to a year in advance. This will give you something to look forward to and work towards. When you meet your goal of going on your vacation, you are going to feel pride and self satisfaction that you got yourself there. If you can't make it on a vacation, try the new craze and try a "staycation". This is a vacation where you stay in your local community and try things your community has to offer you didn't know about. It is also a great way to support your community and be involved. The more involved you are, the better your self-worth will feel.
