Having the ability to become self-motivated is a good quality to develop because it can help you get a new job, make friends, and have a positive attitude. Everyone has some degree of self-motivation. What it really comes down to is how much time and energy we are willing to invest in ourselves to become better people. Here are some tips that can help you learn how to become self-motivated:

  • Determine what you want to do with your life. What are some of your goals and how do you envision yourself accomplishing them?
  • What motivates you to become a better person? Do you want to be a better person for yourself or for the people around you? Many of use are motivated because of our loved ones or another person that has touched our lives in some way.
  • Establish some daily goals to help you stay motivated. Although there may be times you feel overwhelmed, if you can set some goals for yourself, you will find they are easy to accomplish and this will help to improve your self-esteem as you accomplish some of your goals.
  • Look for things that will help you stay motivated. Perhaps reading motivational books or thoughts will improve your daily outlook. Try a number of different things to help you become motivated.
  • Don't think everything is impossible to accomplish. When you have self-doubt and fear, you will never break free and become motivated to do anything. Give yourself a little room to dream big so you can accomplish big things.
  • Set goals that are realistic. Far too often we dream so big that we create goals that will be difficult to accomplish. If you have a big goal, start with small goals you need to accomplish it. For example, lets say you want to buy a home but you don't have any money, set up a 5-10 year goal of paying off debt in 2 years, saving for 3 and buying the home in 5 to 10 years. While this may seem distant, at least you are giving yourself a realistic goal to accomplish. Plus, think of how inspiring it will be if you can accomplish your goal early.
  • Get rid of a negative attitude and start thinking positively. People that are naturally negative are demoralizing and no one wants to be around them. If you are this person, stop having a negative outlook on life and start looking at all the positive aspects of your life. To help you think positive, take some time to make a list of all the positive things in your life. Each day, remind yourself of one of these qualities by saying "today I am thankful for my job", etc. This is a great way to stay positive about everything you have accomplished.
  • Surround yourself with people that support and uplift you. Being around negative people will really hurt your self-esteem and it can be hard to get out of a slump when you are around them. Start surrounding yourself with people that think positively and you will start to have a better outlook and attitude towards life.
  • Have a plan. A big part of self-motivation comes through good organizational skills and by having a plan. Don't let yourself become demoralized by not knowing what to expect, instead map out some of the things you need to do. Consistency is the key to stay self-motivated.
  • One of the worst self-motivation killers is procrastination. Anyone that delays things will pay for it eventually. Create a schedule to help avoid procrastination and excess stress.
