Making motivation last

Motivation is a skill that can be developed in life and offers many ways for people to do amazing things in their lives. For most people, motivation is something that comes around once each year and lasts for a month or two after they have set their new year's resolutions. Many quickly forget what and why these things were important to them in the first place and lose their motivation to accomplish these goals. These people are not necessarily bad, but are losing sight about one important aspect of motivation: making it last.

Motivation comes in many different forms and can be a great strength to most people. Motivation also comes in different durations and strengths which is really the differentiating factor in the matter. The problem that most people have with motivation is that they let it fizzle out and then just move onto the routine of everyday life. After the holidays have passed and things pick up with work again or when different priorities come along, they forget why their goals were important to them in the first place.

There are also times when people don't really even commit to something other than the reason that it is expected of them at the beginning of each year. There is nothing that will make motivation die faster than having it forced on you. The best kind of motivation and the only kind that will produce lasting results has to come from a deep commitment to something and a desire to see it through no matter what kind of obstacles come up.

Motivation is something that has to be worked at as well. There isn't a point when anyone can say, `I have all the motivation I need in my life and don't need any more'. This is something that happens all too often though when people convince themselves that they really can run out of motivation. Constant work and vigilance is the only way to make your motivation last for your whole life. When you want to make something last forever, you take care of it a little differently than other things. Nurture your motivation and take time each week, or even each day if possible, to remember why you are motivated and what things are going to drive your success.

When you have a specific goal that you are working on, making your motivation to accomplish it can be as simple as making it visible and thought provoking every day. If you remember why you are motivated to do something or even just what your goal is, then you are going to spend more time during the day working to achieve it. Write your goal or motivation down and put it in a place that you will remember to look at it each day. As cheesy as it may sound, having it taped to the ceiling above your bed can be a great place to see it first thing when you wake up in the morning. Spend the time to think about your goal regularly and you will find that you are taking the steps necessary to achieve it.

When you are coming up with goals they can be as large or as small as you want them to be. If you have a larger goal that you want to accomplish, the best way to achieve it is to split it up into tiny pieces that are easier to keep track of and to do each and every day. The small steps and little things done well each day is what will really bring you success in the long run.
