Mental health and self mastery

Staying mentally healthy is a critical part of self mastery and motivation. If you suffer from a mental illness, you are not controlling yourself. So, what can you do to have optimum mental health and avoid mental illness, of all kinds? Try the following:

|
Exercise:
Exercise is great for the body, but it is also great for the mind. It helps your mind relax and deal with life's daily stress. Stress can kill your mental health. So, while it is not exactly clear why exercise is such a good stress reliever, and a great way to relax the mind, the fact remains that it is. Exercise is known to increase endorphin production, which makes you feel good. While feeling good is not the only thing you need to be mentally healthy, it is a step in the right direction. So, pick an exercise that you can enjoy and look forward to each day, whether that is biking, hiking, running, yoga, or something else. Find what you love and do it daily for better all around health, including mental health.
Socialize:
Social time with family and friends is another key component to good mental health. No matter how busy you get, you should set aside quality time socializing. Just make sure that the the people you choose to socialize with are positive influences.
Laugh:
Laughter, like exercise, releases endorphins, and can help keep you more mentally stable and healthy. So watch a comedy, read a funny story, or enjoy the company of people who have a great sense of humor. Laughing often and well is great. This will enable you to make the most out of life, and it will boost your immune system as a bonus. Learn to laugh at yourself, and to find the humor and joy in every situation.
Meditate daily:
Meditation, by definition, is a focused "mind exercise." This done daily will keep your mind sharp and clear, and will help you keep your priorities in order. You can take a meditation class, or meditate on your own. Spending 15 minutes to an hour each day on mediation, and on clearing your mind will do you a world of good.
Say no.
Learn when to say, "No" when you do not have the time or energy to deal with other's burdens or problems. You are not obligated to take on other's headaches.
If you are mentally healthy, you learn how to control your moods, body, and self far better, which will lead to a happier, healthier, better life.
