Motivating yourself to be a better employee

Becoming a better employee is a great way for someone to become a better person in general. This article discusses how a person can motivate them self to be a better employee.
Do you like your job?
It can be very difficult, if not close to impossible, for a person to motivate themselves to be a good employee if they hate their job. So the first step for a person to motivate them self to be a better employee is for them to either find a way for them to like, or at least put up with, their job, or find one that they do like or will be able to tolerate.

Look for ways
After a person decides if they like or can tolerate their job, the next step to motivate them to be a better employee is for them to look for things that they can do better. A person can ask themselves in what ways can they be a better employee? Just about every employee has at least one way that they can improve and be a better employee. As a person notices the ways they can be a better employee they should list them so that they can keep them in their mind.
If an employer or a manager has mentioned ways that a person can become a better employee, they should also include these to their list. Most employers and managers are able to see ways employees can be better even when the employee has not noticed them.
Make goals
Making goals is a great way for a person to be motivated to be a better employee. After they have listed ways that they have noticed they can be a better employee, the person should set goals to help them adopt these specific characteristics of a good employee.
A person should begin by making short term goals. Short term goals need to be made in order for a person to be able to reach their long term goals. Most people would have the main long term goal be to be a better employee. And a few examples of short term goals that can help a person be a better employee might include: be on time to work each day, complete projects on time, be more organized, etc. Sometimes these goals can also be broken up even more into other short term goals.
For example, a person can make a goal to wake up five minutes early so that they can leave their house five minutes earlier so that they can ensure that they will be on time to work each day. Or a person can make a goal to start their projects right away and to make a schedule to work on a project a certain amount of time each day so that they will be able to complete their projects on time.
Consider these
There are other things that a person can consider that may help motivate them to be a better employee. For example, a person will likely be motivated to be a better employee if they realize that being a better employee can help them get a raise. Getting a raise may mean more financial stability and that can be a great motivator to employees.
A person should also consider that they may get a promotion, or at least be able to keep their job, if they are a better employee. They can think about what their job allows them to do (ie live in a house, drive a car, buy food and clothes, etc.) Knowing that they may lose their job can definitely motivate someone to become a better employee.
