Motivation and success

We all want to find success. We work towards obtaining a number of different goals throughout our lifetimes. Some of us aspire for professional achievement, while others hope to raise a happy and healthy family. In order to get anything done, we need motivation. Motivation is the driving force behind everything that we do. Sometimes we are easily motivated to do something and therefore dismiss that the concept of motivation was even involved at all in the decision making process. However, as we are faced with more challenging situations, we become much more aware of how we are, or are not, motivated. Some individuals are self-motivated, meaning that these individuals are able to motivate themselves without much outside help. There are others who seem to need external rewards and encouragement to get anything done. These personality differences are important to understand if you are going to be successful.

If you want to find success, you first need a plan. That plan should be made up of a series of goals that work as stepping stones toward achieving your ultimate accomplishment. Goals may seem simple enough, but many people set themselves up for failure before they even begin because of poor goal making. Goals need to be tailor made to the individual. As was mentioned before, you need to know how you are motivated in order to create a goal that you are likely to be able to find the motivation to accomplish. A goal that you can't get excited about doing will not give you the motivation that you need to be successful.
Many times intelligence is associated with success, but even the most intelligent people need motivation in order to accomplish their goals and get where they want to be in life. Just as some people are naturally gifted with intelligence, others are able to motivate themselves with a desire to learn and create intellectual success for themselves. Motivation and success have a direct beneficial relationship with each other. When one is motivated to succeed and achieves that success, it becomes easier to be motivated to take on the next task. Eventually an upward spiral is created when motivation and success feed off of each other and get you closer to the goals that you have established.
When trying to improve the way that you are motivated and thereby increase your chances of being successful, it is important to be honest with yourself. Are you self-motivated or do you need help from other people or other things to get you to do what needs to be done? Are you genuinely interested in accomplishing the goal that you set for yourself? Are you being realistic when it comes to what you believe you are capable of doing? Can you exercise the amount of self control needed to accomplish the goals that you have set for yourself? Most of the time, the answers to these questions will be much more complicated than a simple yes or no response. Take time to reflect, to be aware of how you react to challenges and eventually you will be better able to be honest with yourself and find ways to motivate yourself successfully.
If you are having trouble with motivating yourself, perhaps it may be helpful to look at motivation from the perspective of being in control of your own future. Self control is all about controlling your feeling and corresponding actions. Motivation works in exactly the same way. Just as you must control yourself from lashing out when someone angers or offends you, you must use your self control to dedicate yourself to succeeding at achieving your goals.
