Motivation checklist, what should be on one?

Most people do better when they have a list of items that need to be accomplished and they can check them off as they go. They work faster, are more efficient, and produce better results. So, if you want to get motivated faster, more efficiently, and have a better, longer lasting brand of motivation, you should have a checklist with the following things on it:

1. A summary of your goals. Checklists are to be read daily, and what better what to get motivated to reach your goals than to remind yourself about what your goals are on a daily basis? So, write out each goal, make sure they are easy to see, separate, and clearly defined.
2. Steps to success. Having your goals is one thing, having a clear path to reach those goals is another. So, chart out your course, and make sure it is on your motivational checklist. Ask yourself, "Do I have, and do I know the steps I need to take to succeed?" If you answer no, then look at them, review them, find them, and do your best to commit them to memory, if you do not know how you are going to succeed, it will be difficult to do so.

3. A daily to do list. Part of a motivational check list needs to include the things you should do daily to accomplish your goals, or stay motivated. So, this may be a list of things to read, steps to take, chores to complete, activities to do, etc. However, if you include a list of things to do daily, you will be able to get and stay motivated, as well as do the small necessary steps that create success. By having them part of a daily to do list, you start the road toward creating habits of these things.
4. An evaluation reminder. On your motivational checklist, have an evaluate line. Then, as you go over your checklist, you can evaluate how you are doing. Are you staying motivated? Are you staying focused? Are you moving closer to your goals, or further away? These questions and more should be part of your evaluation section of your motivational checklist.

So, your motivational checklist is in place to help keep you motivated, you should review it periodically and check that you have done the things you need to do. So, an example list would look like so:

Motivational Check-list:
 Have I set goals:
o I will lose 5 pounds a month for the next 6 months to hit my optimal weight.
o I will exercise a minimum of 3 times a week.
Have I outlined my steps to success:
o I will eliminate soda from my diet.
o I will carry a water bottle with me.
o I will buy only healthy foods.
o I will pack healthy snacks to take with me daily so I am not tempted to cheat.
o I will eat smaller portions and not over eat.
o I will have a fresh fruit of vegetable with every meal.
o Work out Monday, Wednesday, and Friday morning with a friend.
What do I do each day to get and stay motivated to succeed:
o Prepare healthy snacks.
o Get a water bottle in the fridge so it is cold.
o Eat breakfast
o Go to gym with friend.
o If friend can't go, find someone else to go with.
 How am I doing:
o Am I staying motivated? I struggle at work when I can see others drinking soda and snacking on chips and candy.
o What can I do? I can pack more options and a bigger variety so I am content with what I have.
o Am I staying focused? I am focused to exercise, and eating right is difficult, I lose focus when at the store or with others.
o Am I moving closer to your goals, or further away? I have successfully lost 3 pounds this month and have not missed a week of exercise yet.
This is a great way to get and stay motivated as you see your weaknesses and strengths and give yourself a chance to evaluate them and make needed changes.
