Qualities of a good motivational plan
When you want to get motivated, it is smart to put into action a motivational plan. However, not just any motivational plan will do. There are specific qualities that come along with a good motivational plan. These include:
1. A focus. getting motivated in general is a good thing, but for a motivational plan it is always smart to get focused to do something! So that might be work harder, diet, go to bed earlier, eat better, etc. What the focus is, is not nearly as important as having one, because without focus and direction, your motivation does little for you.

2. A goal, or some goals. You need to have some goals that help you to get motivated and that are related to your motivational focus. So, for example, if your focus is to lose weight, you would want weight loss goals to be a part of your motivational plan. Two pounds by Friday, or five pounds a month, or whatever it is. If your motivational goal is to work harder from home, then have your goals be that you are up and working by 8:30, that you spend 2 hours of time on the phone or marketing, or whatever each day. Set small goals.
3. Next part of a motivational plan is having steps to reach your goals. If your goal is to lose weight and it is five pounds a month, what steps will you take to get there? You would set steps like exercise, eat right, and get plenty of sleep. You would try to eliminate refined and processed foods, etc. If your goal is to get promoted at work by a specific date, then your steps need to be things like talking to your boss about wanting a promotion, doing the projects and work that will get you one etc. So, to have your motivational plan really work, and get you motivated, you need a clear path, and the way to get to where you want to go.
4. A good motivational plan is realistic. You might want to get motivated to lose a hundred pounds, but if your plan is to lose that in a 6 month period by simply walking a mile each day, and not adding or taking away anything else from your routine, you won't be motivated because you know it won't happen. However, if your plan is to buy a new car with, and you have goals of saving $1000 a month for a year to do it, and your steps are that you put $200 from each pay check, and you eat out one less time a month and put that money in an account, then your goal is realistic, it has steps, focus, direction, and you will likely have the motivation to accomplish it because you know you can.
5. You have to have a back-up plan. Part of a good motivational plan is having a plan B in case something goes wrong. So, if you want to get motivated to exercise, and your goal is to work out each day, and you work out outside, what will you do if it rains? To get motivated, and stay motivated you have to have contingency plans so you never have an excuse not to do what you are trying to get motivated to do.
6. Last but not least, a good motivational plan has rewards attached. If you want to be motivated, there has to be a motivating factor. (To lose weight it would be how you look and feel; for a promotion it would be an increase in salary). However, sometimes the motivating factor is not enough, you need something to help you along the way during the rough times when the end seems no where in sight, that is where little rewards come in.
