Tips for getting motivated to do anything

Motivation is something that comes into play in our lives for more reasons than we can probably think of. There are many plain and simple things that we do out of habit, but we are actually motivated to do them. Here are some tips that will help you to get and stay motivated to do anything.

One great example of motivation for a habit is the simple routine of brushing your teeth. You may not feel like it takes a lot of motivation to get this done several times a day, but you really do have to be motivated to get out the brush and toothpaste to even get started. Many people don't realize that they are motivated by the lack of desire to visit the dentist and get cavities filled. Motivation to brush your teeth may also come from the fact that you just don't like having a dirty mouth or bad breath.

Almost everything we do has to start with some kind of motivation no matter how big or small the task really is. When you are trying to consciously get motivated about something, you first need to think about what you want to have happen as a result of your efforts. Beginning with then end in mind is one of the greatest steps you can take to get motivated about something. Exercise is a great example of this in action. You may not be motivated at all by the idea of getting up early in the morning to exercise, but you could be very motivated by a desire to get into better shape. When you have the end in mind, it is much easier to get motivated to do something rather than just sitting around.

After you have established the goal or end that you are looking to achieve, you have to plan some kind of route or road to get you to the final destination. Having a plan in place makes a goal more of a reality than just a thought in your mind. This is very important with any goal, no matter what the size and will eventually help you to accomplish greater things than you ever thought possible. Start with small goals that you may not even consider to be a challenge. Having the satisfaction of setting and accomplishing a goal is usually sufficient motivation to repeat the process again with something more difficult.

If you have a task that is particularly large and you aren't really sure if you can get it all done, just cut it up into chunks or pieces. It's much easier to accomplish a small part of something big than to just take on the whole project at one time and then declare success or failure long before the process is done. Almost inevitably, there will times when you doubt what you are doing or feel like you aren't making the progress you would like. When this happens, it's important to take a step back and to look at the situation as a whole. Ask yourself the questions about why you are doing what you are and if it really is something that you are committed to doing.

Many people try to find the secret ingredient of motivation, but the secret is really just to take action and get to work. Action is really what will make things happen. No matter how much time was spent planning and thinking things through, you will never get the results you want unless you actually take action and move forward with your plans. Decide what you want, why you want to achieve it and then just get to work doing the things you need to accomplish the task.
