Tips for motivating yourself to get appropriate sleep
Sleep is an important process that helps us to function properly throughout the day. If you do not get enough sleep, generally you will be grumpy, frustrated with life, and just not be as effective. We all know how important sleep is, but sometimes it is hard to get motivated to get appropriate sleep, especially since there are so many distractions. Distractions are what keep people from getting sleep, so how can you get motivated to get enough sleep despite distractions? Try the following:
1. To get motivated to get enough sleep you will want to start your evenings earlier. A lot of times people go to bed late because they want to get a full night of fun in. No one wants to come home from work and spend only a few minutes doing something before they go to bed. So, instead they watch a movie, go out with friends, or just flip through the channels over and over watching nothing just so they do not have to go to bed. So, if you start your evening earlier, then you will be more motivated to get appropriate sleep because you won't want to stay up just to do it. Instead of going to dinner at 7:30 to start the night, go to dinner at 5:30. The difference in going to bed at 10 versus midnight is huge! So, start early and be more motivated to get enough sleep.

2. Look at your productivity level. When you get enough sleep it is easier to be productive. Recognizing the difference in your productivity when you get sleep and when you don't can help you to get motivated to get the right amounts of sleep. When you do not get enough sleep and you see that you can get more done in a shorter period of time, you will like the feeling. You have to equate the productivity to the amount of sleep you get, otherwise you will not find the motivation to get more sleep.
3. Set a bed time. If you want to get motivated to get appropriate sleep you have to start by setting some guidelines for yourself. One of those guidelines should be a hard and fast bed time. If you have not gone to bed by a specific time, then you will be in bed. So, for example, if you have work at 8 and need to get up at 6 in time to get there in time, and you want to get at least 8 hours of sleep, then you have to go to bed by ten. So, set that as your hard and fast bed time. You can always go to bed before ten, but if ten comes and you are not in bed, you drop what you are doing, and you go to bed.
4. Look at health benefits. Sleep is not just nice for how you produce the next day, you have to also see that you can use the health benefits of appropriate sleep to get yourself motivated. When you get enough sleep you are better able to handle stress. When you get enough sleep your immune system is stronger. When you get enough sleep your body is able to better heal, etc. There are plenty of health benefits for getting enough sleep, so take some time to look at what the benefits are, and let that motivate you to get appropriate sleep.
