Tips for staying motivated long term
Getting motivated, and staying motivated are two very different things. A lot of the times you get motivated and you are motivated for a week, or a couple hours, or even maybe a month, and then your resolution fails. So, how can you stay motivated long term so that you accomplish your dreams and goals? The following are some tips for staying motivated long term:
Tip one: Use what works for you. A lot of times people already know what motivates them, but they forget, or they look for something else. There is no reason to look for something else if you have found something that works to motivate you. So, if you watch a movie that moves you, or if you read a book that gets you inspired to change your life, or if you listen to someone speak, and they motivate you, use it! It is likely you've experienced one or more things that have really had a way of motivating you. Revisit them on a regular basis, if you do it is like going to the gas station and refueling your vehicle.

Tip two: Get your environment right. If you want to get motivated and stay motivated, you have to have a conducive to motivation environment. It is hard to get motivated when you are surrounded by chaos and mess. It is impossible to stay motivated when you are surrounded by chaos and mess. It is like giving yourself a thousand distractions and asking yourself to focus. So, instead of trying to do something extremely hard, why not organize your space and keep it clean? An old adage says, "A cluttered space leads to a cluttered mind." Motivation long term takes focus, the ability to see the here and now, but to also look at the big picture. Each day take a few minutes to get your work area clean, put back together, and organized so that your mind can be at ease, so that your body can focus, and so that you can maintain clarity and focus while working toward your goals.
Tip three: Don't be motivated all of the time. Think of motivation like you think of athletics. You can work really hard all of the time, but if you do you will burn out fast, experience an injury, etc. Or, work hard when you need to, and with consistency, but give yourself a break on occasion as well. Sometimes the best way to stay motivated to achieve your goal is to give it a rest, take a few days off or away. Go on vacation, take a nap if you feel exhausted, or just watch television for a few hours. Sometimes just a fifteen minute snack break can be all the rest you need to get your head back on and your mind refocused and determined to work toward your goals. So, for long term motivation, and the ability to stay motivated, don't push yourself over the limits.
Tip four: Get a good support team on your side. Long term motivation is very difficult without support. So, tell your family, spouse, friends, or someone who cares about your goals, dreams, ambitions, and what you are going to do to accomplish them, and let them be there for you when you hit obstacles or face problems. If you let people be your support team, it will be harder to just quit, someone will be there to remind you, to help you renew your enthusiasm, and to help you through a tough time.
