Tips for staying motivated to work hard at your goals

Becoming motivated can be difficult, but staying motivated is even harder. An initial excitement usually helps people to get started on a goal that they have been wanting to do. Once that excitement wears off, so can the motivation to keep working towards that goal.

Creating a list of things that are important to you and your value system is one of the first steps when trying to become motivated. It is easier to keep on track when steps are written right in front of you to check on a daily basis. Plus, this helps you to give yourself praise for things that are accomplished on the way to your goal. You may even want to set up a reward system for when you do these littler steps. Praise and rewarding yourself along the way is a really good tip for staying motivated.

Another tip for staying motivated to work hard at your goals is to get a support system of friends and family. Other people can help you in many ways to stay motivated. They can keep you accountable for what you say you are going to do, they can give you new ideas and perspectives on things, and they may even want to join you on your quest to accomplishing your goal. Similar goals like losing weight can really bond people together and help to keep you motivated on your own weight loss.

When setting your goals you want to make sure that you keep things as simple as possible. There is no reason to set yourself up for failure. Keep the goals reasonable and attainable. It is important to stay patient and not get down on yourself if something goes wrong. You need to try and stay focused on the long term goal and let everything else be a little bit flexible. Things happen in life that you cannot always foresee and you have to cut yourself some slack when stuff happens.

Keeping excited about your goal is another way to stay motivated. The more good you feel about it, the more likely it is you will accomplish it. Try and keep this in mind when setting your goals also. You don't want to set goals that you don't feel really good about. Set goals that fit you and your personality and lifestyle. Don't try and form your goals on what others think you should be doing.

Draw motivation from things that inspire you. Everyone has something that inspires them, whether it is music, art or a person you may know. Try and keep daily reminders around you so that you don't lose focus on what you want to achieve. Something that is inspirational just to you, will trigger a thought in your head and make you think about what steps need to be taken today to help achieve your goal.

Motivation is something that only you can choose for yourself. No one else knows what will inspire you or give you the drive necessary for your achievements. Once you start accomplishing steps towards your goal, your success should help you stay motivated. Write down your successes as they happen so you can see what you have done and how far you have come. This will help you not to give up and to take pride in what has already been accomplished. You need to give yourself as much praise as you would any of your friends that came to you with these same accomplishments. You are the only one who can motivate yourself, and you are the only one who can complete the goals that are important to you.
