Using inspirational stories to get motivated
Many people have found that using an inspirational story is a great way to get motivated. Often times we get really wrapped up in our own little world, and our own set of problems, and reasons for lacking motivation, and we do not see how good we have it, or how much strength we really have within. Often when we are in these situations, a good inspirational story is all it takes to get motivated.
Think about the boxer in "Cinderella Man" he motivated thousands to look beyond themselves and their problems in the depression and have hope. That may seem insignificant, but that hope inspired many to improve their dire situations, get their families together, and work harder to stabilize the economy and give their children a better life. We can look at his story and find motivation of our own. When you see him in the dumps, living on scraps, and not having enough money for food, you may get motivated to build up a food storage so that if you lost your job your family would not go hungry. There are many lessons and things to be learned from inspirational stories. That is why they are called inspirational stories-because they inspire us to be better.

When you read an inspirational story, you can often relate to the characters; in relating to the characters you find someone to lean on. Too many people think they are the only one with problems, or the only person who has this or that problem. When they see someone else, even a fictional character it is like finding support. Inspirational stories are also great because they help you to recognize weaknesses other people have. For example, in Cinderella Man, there was a time he was living very profitably. But, he did not pay off his house, or get a store of food, instead he went out on the town, bought fineries, etc. So, seeing him do this, then seeing how it later effected his family, can help you see what his weakness was, and improve that in yourself. It is easy to see weakness in others, but difficult to see our own. That is why inspirational stories are such great motivators, they get you to look within without pointing a finger.
Another way that inspirational stories are so great at getting you motivated is that they allow you to see people with weakness and problems, and see them reach within themselves for something better than their current situation. They find strength in themselves that they may not have known they have. This in turn helps you to get motivated and find your own inner strength. When you see or hear of an ordinary person doing extraordinary things, like Helen Keller, it helps you to find the extraordinary in yourself.
We are all just people, and yet some of us tap into our potential well. Inspirational stories are a way of bringing that into view, and helping you see that your well is not yet tapped, or at least not flowing as much as it could be. They help you to recognize your ability, and the strengths you have that you could apply in similar situations.
So, next time you are in need of motivation, no matter what the reason, find an inspirational story to help. If it is exercise, look at all of the people who have overcome huge disabilities and problems to compete in major athletic events; music, many deaf, dumb, and blind have created masterpieces, etc. if they can do it, you can too!
