There are a variety of weight loss motivators. Some people are motivated to lose weight because they want to fit into their clothes or look great in a bathing suit. Other people are motivated to lose weight because they want to be healthy and lower their risk of a certain diseases such as diabetes, cancer, and heart disease. But not matter what the motivator is; losing weight is a good thing to do. This article discusses weight loss motivation and how to lose weight.

How to stay motivated


Staying motivated to lose weight can be tough. Many people trying to lose weight encounter a plateau a few weeks into their weight loss program. This can be very discouraging. But there are several ways for a person to stay motivated to help them lose weight.

Setting realistic goals is a great way for a person to stay motivated to lose weight. When a person is able to reach one of their short term or long term goals they will feel more motivated to continue to work hard to reach their other goals. A person should not just set a goal to lose weight and they shouldn't set a weight loss goal that is unrealistic.

It is important for a person to take the time to research how much weight they should lose each week and how much they should try to lose overall. A person can find out this information by talking to their doctor, a personal trainer, or a dietitian.

More specific and realistic weight loss goals will be easier for a person to achieve and they actually be able to see results. For example, a person can set a weight loss goal of two pounds each week and set their long term goal as losing 30 pounds in six months.

Another way to stay motivated is to have a mentor. A person trying to lose weight can have a doctor, dietitian, friend, personal trainer, etc. as their weight loss mentor. This person can help encourage them and push them to reach their weight loss goals.

Increase physical activity

Increasing physical activity is a great way for a person to lose weight. When a person exercises their body uses more calories. When the body uses the calories there will be less calories in the body to turn into fat.

A person should not be afraid of physical activity. Exercising does not just mean running. There are many types of activities that a person can do that are considered exercising. A person can swim, walk, run, dance, skate, play a sport, etc. It is important for a person to find something that they like to do because that will help them stay motivated to exercise.

Decrease calorie intake

Decreasing a person's calorie intake does just about the same thing as exercising. If the body has less calories then there will be less calories to turn into fat. All packaged foods have a label on them that lists the amount of calories they have per serving. A person can decrease the amount of calories they eat by counting the calories they intake and limiting them.

But a person should not just not eat; they should also choose the right foods for their body to eat. Fruits and vegetables are very important sources of vitamins and minerals and they have very little calories compared to the nutrients they provide the body. Instead of just eating less food, a person could also replace cookies, cakes, ice cream, chips, soda, etc., with healthy foods such as fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and 100% fruit and vegetable juices.
