Why do you want to change?

jogging19168100.jpgMany of us have a strong desire to become a better person. This desire could be from something like wanting to be a better spouse, a better parent, or a better co-worker. It could be from something else like wanting to be like a person you admire. In order to get on the path to become a better person, it is important to define why you want to change.

The end result
When it comes to becoming a better person, it is important to establish an end goal. What do you want to become? How will the personality changes you make better your life and those around you? Create a list of all the different qualities you want to incorporate into your life and set out to accomplish these goals. Make sure the end result is something you can achieve. Adding too many things to your goals can make it extremely difficult to actually achieve the end result. Stick with small goals like "exercising daily to improve my heart" or "smiling at 10 people". Look for goals that are easy before you move onto the bigger goals like becoming humble and accepting defeat with dignity.

With each quality you want to add or remove, create a list of how each quality will improve the lives of those around you. Determine how a chain reaction will form based on a small personality change.

Action plan

Once you have a list of the different things you want to focus on, you need to develop an action plan. What motivates you to become a better person? Once you know the answer to this question, it will be easy to create an action plan. For most of us, we will need to establish weekly and monthly goals with a reward system. Let others know you desire to strengthen your personality with a few of these different traits, these individuals can rally behind you and help you become a better person.

The action plan step consists of doing it. Far too often we lose the motivation to "do" because of our personal reservations. If you need help with the "do" step you should seek the advice of a professional counselor. They are trained to help others change things about their personalities to become better people and build stronger relationships with their loved ones.

To stay motivated, use goals and reminders. Use a calendar or set an alarm to remind yourself to continue working on these different personality changes. A reward system is one of the best ways to help yourself stay motivated about becoming a better person because it will give you something to look forward to. Having a sense of accomplishment is one of the best ways to stay motivated and focused on your end result.

Don't be a waster

We all have different things we can be working on so what are we waiting for? It is so much easier to just go out and start making the changes today rather than putting it off for several weeks or months. Don't be a waster, start today! You may surprise yourself when you start making some changes and how it makes your daily life better as well as the lives of everyone else around you.

Use a calendar to help stay on target and focused. The other benefit about using a calendar is that it will help to remind you to do it today instead of putting it off day after day after day. Wouldn't you rather start having a good relationship with those around you today instead of in 6 years from now?
