Why serving others makes you a better person

There are many different reasons to give service. Some people like to do service because of the way it makes them feel. Some people like it because of the good it does for other people. Some people do service in hopes that their good deeds will come back to them one day. No matter what the reason is that you choose to do service, it is never a bad thing. It does make you feel good, it does help others, and you usually do end up getting things back for the service that you do. These are the reasons why serving others makes you a better person:
Serving other people really does give you a wonderful feeling. Knowing that you are doing good for other people is incredibly satisfying, and serving others because you want to have this feeling is not selfish. One of the best things that we get from service is this great sense of enjoyment. This is one of the reasons that serving others makes us better people. When we can serve others and feel wonderfully about ourselves, it just makes us want to do more and more for other people. Having this great confidence gives us the desire to do more, and makes us happier. This is the first way that serving others makes us into better people

The second reason that serving others improves us as human beings is that when doing so, you are being a part of creating change. Service comes in many different packages. There are grand ways to serve, such as working with a non-profit organization, making a large donation to charity, giving countless hours of your time to different causes, etc. There are smaller ways that we can serve as well. Some of the greatest opportunities we have to serve are right within our communities. We can put some change in a cup at the grocery store, mow the neighbors yard, stop by to see someone who's having a bad day, or simply do an act of kindness for a member of your family, like making a bed. No matter how big or how small, doing service is an incredible way to create change in the world. By helping others, you are inspiring them to do service in return, and this makes you a better person.
If you are choosing to serve those close to you, it can improve your family and friendship relationships infinitely. Doing kind and sweet things for one other will increase your appreciation for one another. There are so many things that you can do for those close to you. Things that you don't normally think of as service can be the best things to do for each other. Families are some of the best establishments because we are meant to support our family members. If you see any sort of need in your family, help that person as much as you can. This kind of service helps your family to function better, and makes you a better family member and human being.
One more thing that helps you to improve through service is that when you do good for others, you get service back in return. This may seem like a selfish reason, but it's a great concept that is present in most religions. Do unto others as you would have done unto you. What goes around comes around, etc. Although this probably shouldn't be your first reason for doing service, if it is, that's alright. Doing good is a great thing no matter what your reasons behind it are, and if you are a person who spends time doing service, good things will come back to you in return.
