Workplace motivation tips

manconferencetable30341271.jpgEvery employer knows the destructive force lack of motivation can bring into any office. Keeping your employees motivated is important to the success of your company and to your career. If you come into work with a bunch of people that really don't want to be there, what will continue to motivate you to keep coming in?

In order to keep workplace motivation high, you need to spend some time talking with your employees. Let them know what the plans are for the company so they can feel involved. Ask them for their input. This will help to improve their motivation because they feel that you are increasing their responsibilities with the company. Show your employees that you value their hard work by keeping them involved with the company. Employees that feel like they are ignored or invisible can really start to hurt your company.

Employees will stay motivated if they have someone or something to believe in. A good leader is the best way to keep your employees motivated. Have this person be an example for everyone else by following the rules and setting the standard for the rest of the office. This means you may need to have your mangers come in earlier and work later, but they need to show their employees that they believe in the vision of the company.

Create a friendly working environment. People will become motivated to come to work if they like the people they work with. Encourage your employees to spend time getting to know one another, it's a great way to boost their self-esteem and it will help them stay motivated about their job. You can show them a friendly working environment by having random free lunch days or pot luck lunches. Do little things that encourage a friendly working environment where everyone gets along and actually looks forward to their jobs.

Look for ways to recognize your employees and their hard work. Even walking up to their desk and telling them what a nice job they do will encourage them to work harder. If possible, try to set aside some money for rewards. Look for good work behavior and other things to let your employees know how much you do appreciate their hard work. While not every company may be able to afford large Christmas bonuses, try and offer your employees some sort of bonus. Even $50 will make a difference to a person that works hard for their money.

Never talk down to your employees. Even though you may be their superior, treat them as your equal. Respect is one of the best things you can do to show your employees that you care about them. When an employee feels disrespected, a wave of low employee morale can quickly sweep over the office. If you need to discipline an employee, do so behind closed doors. Try to use constructive criticism to inspire employees to work harder. Take some time to walk by their desk and say "thank-you" , it's a simple way to show them you respect and genuinely care about them.

As offices get bigger, it is easy to forget names and to forget about employees. Try your best to show every employee that you care about them. Make memorizing their names a priority and look for ways to recognize them.

Hold competitions in the office like weight loss competitions or sales goals. This is a great way to encourage a fun working environment. It's also a great way to get employees to mingle with one another and build great working relationships. Plus, it's a great way to boost your sales and improve your business.
