Number one: Voice

Many times when people lie, their voice is going to change. The biggest thing that you will notice is a change of pitch in the person's voice; most people who are lying tend to have their voices go up in pitch rather than down because they are nervous. You might also notice unusual speech patterns, such as more stammering than usual or even more throat clearing because they are trying to make noise until they can think of what to say next.

If you are asking when is it okay to lie to your friends then you probably have something you do not want to tell your friends. When is it okay to lie to your friends is a personal issue. What a lie is can be debated among many people. To some people, a little white lie is not considered a lie. And other people cannot even handle misleading someone by not saying anything at all.

Lying about self can cause the relationship to be built on a faulty foundation

When people tell lies about themselves to new acquaintances in an effort to impress them, they may succeed. However, over time it is more than likely that those lies will be uncovered. For the person that has lied, the time before a lie is uncovered could be torture for a couple of reasons. First, if the relationship grows into anything significant, the person that has lied will want their new friend to know who they really are. Second, the liar will constantly live in fear that their new friend will discover the truth and the relationship will be destroyed.
