How to keep the romance alive when you both work

Keeping romance alive in a relationship can be a challenge, especially when people have been together for a long time. When both partners work, keeping romance alive can seem almost impossible. Many times people are consigned to having both partners work because of financial needs. Other times both partners simply love their jobs and choose to work. No matter what, when both partners work, it can put a strain on a relationship because work can be very time consuming. Here are a few ways couples can keep romance alive when both partners work.
Date Night
Hopefully both partners will have one night during the week when neither is at work. This is an excellent time for them to go out. Couples should work out a way to plan each date night, or couples may decide to take turns planning these dates. No matter how the date is planned, couples should be sure the activity allows for conversation and fun. Intimacy could be a great option on these dates as well.

Instant Message or Email
Couples that spend most of their time apart because of work may consider opening an account with a messaging service, assuming their employer permits it. Couples could spend breaks sending messages, or they could send each other surprise messages conveying their affection. Emails are also a great way to let a partner know they are thought about.
Keep Work Separate
Couples that would like to keep romance alive even though both partners work should consider keeping work at work. Couples that bring work home have one more excuse to busy themselves doing something other than building their relationship. Those who must bring work home should consider never doing that work in the bedroom because it could cause their partner to feel alienated or that the one place the couple shares is being invaded.
Partners may also consider setting time aside each day to update each other about work. This will let each person know about what the other does all day. Couples should then find ways to create conversation that has nothing to do with work so that they can build their personal relationship as well.
Spontaneity
Couples should consider a little spontaneity in order to keep romance alive even though both partners work. This can be done with a random gift, flowers, phone call, text message, or note. All of these methods are a great way to let the other person in the relationship know that they are thought about, cared about, or even loved depending on the nature of the relationship.
Take Vacations Together
Couples should coordinate their vacation time so that they are off at the same time. If they are able, couples should take vacations together. This will allow them to leave the hustle and bustle of everyday working life and escape to a place where they do not need to worry about work. Couples will then be free to grow closer and reignite the romance that may have been smothered by work.
Couples trying to keep the romance alive, even though both people work, have their work cut out for them. However, by having a date night, sending random emails, keeping work separate, being spontaneous, and taking vacations together, couples will be on their way to keeping romance alive despite their work obligations.
