How to make a date night work
Date night can be really difficult to make happen especially when you have several children. No matter how difficult it can be to accomplish this, it is very important to make sure that you do. Just as you need to make your home a safe and loving place for your children, it's important that it feels the same for you and your spouse. If you stop tending to your relationship and loose yourselves completely to your children, it will hurt your relationship more than you can imagine. Make sure that you and your husband still devote some time to your relationship even after you have children. Here are some tips that will help you learn how to make a date night work:
It is good to set a specific night to have your dates. If you absolutely don't have the time to do this every week, at least try to do it monthly, but whatever your plan is make sure that you have it set in stone so that you can make sure that it happens. If you can't set it for every Friday or Saturday night, try doing it every first Saturday, or last weekend of the month. If you don't set something solid, such as this, it can be really easy to let these outings together slip away from you. A solid plan is needed.

Do fun things together. Put some time and effort into your dates. Movies and dinner are great activities sometimes, but once in a while, it's great to do something new. Most couple stop being creative in their dates as they get older and begin to have children. Don't let this carefree style of dating end. Try something new and young. Go rock climbing at the local gym or do a scavenger hunt. Basically, go on a teenage type date. Planning out activities for one another shows your spouse that you still care for them and want to put effort into pleasing them.
Another way to do this for your spouse is to surprise them. Aside from doing little things from day to day in order to make each other's lives easier and more spontaneous, you can plan a fun date for one another as a surprise. A really fun way to do this is to take turns planning your date nights and surprising each other with the fun things you've planned. This is such a wonderful way to do service for your spouse. It will bring the two of you together and remind your spouse that you care about them so much. One of the simplest and most selfless acts you can do for each other involves the giving of your thoughts and your time. Doing this for each other will shake up date night, make it more fun and original, and remind your spouse that you care.
Another reason that a date night can be really hard to make happen is the lack of babysitters. It can be really difficult even to find someone who you trust to stay with your kids, and if you do, the cost of hiring someone to stay with them can become overwhelming. A great way to continue having your date nights, without the cost is to try and find another couple who is looking for the same thing. Do your best to find a couple you trust with kids about the same age as your children. If you can find this, suggest a swap. If you do a weekly date night, and your kids are too young to stay at home alone, you can work with this couple to watch their kids on Friday, and they can take yours on Saturday. This will completely eliminate babysitting costs, and be mutually beneficial to both couples.
Although making a regular date night happen can be difficult, it is very important to make sure that it does. Being wonderful parents is crucial to your family's well being, but your relationship with your spouse is just as important. Don't allow yourselves to loose this very fulfilling part of your life when you have children. Having happy parents is very important for your child's development, so if having date night just for your own good isn't enough; make sure to remember that you're doing it for them as well.
