When you have a child, you are working hard to provide for their needs. You probably have work, and other commitments in your life. While you do these things so your child can have a good life, sometimes it means not spending as much time with them as you would like to. As a parent, we know it is our job to make sure our kids are fed, clothed, and going to school, but beyond that, what exactly are your responsibilities? You have emotional and spiritual responsibilities to your child as well. So, spending quality time with them on a daily basis is important. However, how do you spend more quality time with your children when you already have such a busy and hectic schedule? Try some of the following:

  • Eat with your children. No matter how much you have on your plate, you will always find time to stop and eat. You have to eat during the day in order to keep going. So, when you take the time to feel your stomach, do it with your children. Yes, there are other things you can do to multitask, but, what is more important than talking to your
children about their day, their plans, goals, homework, relationships, and feelings? So, do your best to spend at least one meal a day with your children.

  • Get involved in their hobbies. You may be busy, but you should be able to find the time to spend a few minutes each day with your child and their hobbies. If you do something together that your child loves, it will be quality time to them. They will open up, start talking, and create positive memories with you.
  • Another great way to spend more quality time with your kids, is to make it a commitment to attend some of their sporting events, dance recitals, or other extra-curricular activities. Even though, at these activities, you are not with them, you are supporting them, and that counts.
  • Your child is likely in school, and most likely has homework. So, one of the ways to spend quality time with your child is to help them with their homework. If you take the time to get more involved in your child's education, they will probably do better. Studies have shown that parents who take an active interest in their child's school work, have more academically successful children. So, not only do you get to spend some quality time with your child, but you can actually help them do better in school.
  • Even as a busy parent, you do not leave your children home alone, at least not until they are much older. So, one thing you can do to spend some quality time with them each day is to get involved in the bed time routine. You may take on the responsibility of bathing them, or maybe you will be the one to read them a story, help them say prayers, or even sing them a nursery rhyme. No matter what your role in the bed time routine is, just be sure you are there. This is a great time to spend with your child as they will likely review their day with you, especially if you ask, and by being there, you tuck them in with the secure feeling that they are loved, important, and that you will be there in the morning.
  • When you drive them places, turn off the radio, turn off the DVD, and talk. There is plenty of opportunity even in a busy life to spend more quality time with your children. So, next time you drive your kids to school, turn off the radio, and strike up a conversation.

There are plenty of ways to spend quality time with your children, but you have to want to.
