Money issues have been sited as the number one reason for divorce. Taking a proactive approach when it comes to money issues can save you a lot of heartache and stress. Having a plan, communicating about your money, and mastering your self-control are only the basic ways of preventing money issues. Find what works in your marriage relationship when it comes to preventing money issues and build on it. These tips are designed to help you overcome money problems in a marriage relationship or prevent them to begin with.

Tip #1: Have a plan.

Being proactive in your approach is always helpful when it comes to issues with money. Put a plan in place with what you are doing with your money before it is gone. A budget, emergency cash fund, and spending plan can all be apart of your preparations. Avoid issues about unforeseen expenses by deciding before-hand what you are going to do about them. Follow your plan. Unnecessary expenses will probably crop up. Talk about them before purchases are made. Set a spending limit for each other individually and as a couple. Luck favors the prepared, so get your plan in order. Your marriage relationship will be much more secure when it comes to money issues if you have a plan. Talk about tough money topics together before they become essential such as life insurance, wills, and funeral arrangements. Everyone will die at some point and if you want to avoid leaving money problems sitting in your spouse's lap, you'll have to make plans before-hand.

Tip #2: Communicate.

People have set paradigms about money. As such, every one has different spending styles. When people come together in a marriage relationship, their spending styles may or may not be the same and they may or may not compliment each other. This can be a sore spot in a marriage relationship. To overcome this obstacle be open and communicate about what you are doing with your money. Sit down monthly and review your budget together. Update each other on whether you are following the plan or not. No secrets. Never hide the price you paid for an item from your spouse. Never hide your debt from your spouse. A marriage relationship is based on trust and as such requires open lines of communication. You can't expect to prevent money issues or overcome them if your communication isn't open and honest with your spouse. To alleviate stress brought on by money issues, be open and communicate about your financial plans for the future. Dream together. It does wonders for your relationship with money and your relationship with each other.

Tip #3: Master Self.

Money problems are brought on by over-spending. If you want to prevent money being and issue in your marriage relationship you must master yourself. Know what your spending habits are and how to prevent over-spending for yourself. Develop a good relationship with money for yourself. A good relationship with money is one in which money works for you rather than disappearing or working against you. Your spouse may have issues with over-spending but find and mend your own faults first. Every one has spending leaks in their budget which is why debt is so rampant today. Find which leaks are your fault and fix them. Mastering your self-control is true power to overcome money issues in a marriage relationship.
