Is being rejected really a good thing?

rejecting63314693.jpgBeing rejected is not a good thing. At least that is the popular sentiment. It does not feel good, and can leave you wondering what you did wrong, or why someone may not be interested in you. However, despite the personal blow to your pride, there are some real positive sides to being rejected.

1. Saves you time: The fact is, if someone is going to reject you without taking the time to get to know you, you are better off. You then do not have to waste any days, hours, minutes, etc. of your life thinking about them, getting to know them, or trying to please them. It is like a "get out of jail free card" that tells you right away that this is not the person for you. So, instead of being upset when you get rejected, think of it as a gift of time, instead of wasted months dating the wrong person, you now have plenty of time to meet the right one.

2. Gives you opportunities for growth: The fact is, when rejected, instead of wallowing and thinking about it, you are given a perfect opportunity to move forward and continue to learn about yourself, dating, others, etc. Instead of spending time on something that will not bring you the desired results in the long run, you get to progress, and choose paths that do bring happiness. In other words, if you weren't rejected, you might miss out on opportunities that come your way, so it opens the door, as long as you keep an open mind, and remember that you have saved time, and now have opportunities available to you if you are willing to take them.

3. Helps you find the right person as well: If someone rejects you, they are probably wrong for you. Even if they have every other characteristic you are interested in, a key characteristic to a healthy relationship is mutual desire. So, when you get rejected, think of it as a narrowing down of the pool of possibilities, and one step closer to finding a person, relationship, or situation that works for your needs, desires, etc. If you are wrong for them, then they are wrong for you. It is as simple as that. It may not feel that way, and it never feels good, but eventually the relationship would fizzle anyway if not everyone is in the same place with it, so this is again, a time saving device that helps you find the right person.

So, while no one likes being rejected, now you can think of it like you should, as your opportunity to move forward and find a person and relationship worthy of your time and energy. Learn what you can from it, and then put a smile on your face, and keep attempting to find someone who will accept you for YOU.
