My Ideals

Marriage is wrought with problems as with any relationship. The difference between a marriage relationship and any other though is the level of intimacy shared, and that is intimacy in the real sense of the word, no just sex. What most people don't realize is that an ideal marriage is built, not found.
Foundation
The first key component to an ideal marriage is to build it on a firm foundation. Your foundation consists of your values. The foundation of an ideal marriage is set on values such as honesty, integrity, love, friendship, and individual worth. Most marriages that fail do so because of secrecy, while most marriages that succeed do so because they are based on the value of complete honesty. Make sure you begin by choosing someone who has similar values. For some beliefs and values are intermingled, but mixed-faith marriages can succeed as well if the parties acknowledge their differences, but also build their marriage relationship based on the same values.

Additional Supports
When your foundation of similar values is laid, you are ready to start building an ideal marriage, and the next component is that of sacrifice. Sacrifice is a form of support and throughout the years of your marriage, you will be called upon to make many sacrifices. Sacrificing your opinion for the good of your marriage, sacrificing your pride for the same reason, sacrificing your time and support to your spouse when they need it. Go into your marriage knowing you will have to give up parts of yourself so you can become one with your spouse. Sacrifice will support the rest of your marriage through rough times.
Walls
Not everything in a marriage is sacrifice. You can experience deep joy and satisfaction in and with each other. The times of joy are the walls of your marriage. They are what will hold your marriage together should the winds of adversity blow. An ideal marriage starts with similar interests while acknowledging and giving room for individualism. If you want to build an ideal marriage, you must do things together that you enjoy. A marriage built on good times is much more likely to last than a marriage in which partners dwell on stressful or unhappy times. Let the walls that hold you in your marriage be the joys you share with your spouse.
Roof
An ideal marriage is also based off two people who are willing to forgive. This is what finished the marriage structure. Fighting and disagreements happen, even in an ideal marriage, but the key to keeping your marriage ideal is to forgive. True forgiveness is when both parties forgive the other their wrongs and never bring them up again to be rehashed. In an ideal marriage, once you have forgiven your spouse, you never throw their wrong doings in their face whether to manipulate, hurt, or prove a point. The past is the past. Leave it there or the roof will blow off your marriage.
The Trappings and Trimmings
To round out an ideal marriage is the trappings and trimmings of attraction and sex. Keep the romance of the first meeting alive. If the attraction goes, the structure of your marriage may not look as inviting as it once did and every part of it from foundation to roof will be weakened. Keep the windows of your love bright and make love a priority.
