Reconnecting with High School Budies

High School might have been a good time or a terrible time, but either way the friends we make there are extremely important. High School is a time when we define who we are and we do so partly by forming certain relationships. After high school many friendships break up quickly and for various reasons; often people move away to go to different colleges or universities. Some people start their careers and don't have much time to spend with friends. It requires real energy and dedication to stay close to the friends you made in high school. Years later many people look back with regret and wish that they had put a little effort into keeping in touch. Today with Facebook and My Space social networking sites it is easier than ever to keep in touch with high school friends. However, if you find that you have not had any contact with good high school friends you should think about reconnecting. It could be quite awkward at first to meet up with someone that you have not seen for years, but the experience is well worth the effort. However, there are a few things you should know about these kinds of social occasions.

First, when you meet up with your old high school budy it might be a little awkward. If you call them out of the blue you will probably get a surprised reaction. They might not want to see you or they might not have time to do so. It might be better to arrange a social event for old friends and send out invitations. This allows your old high school friends to attend if they want to, and to do so when they are good and ready. In many cases this will allow old friends to reconnect in an open social setting, rather than in the awkwardness of a one on one situation.

When you meet up with your old high school friends you should never just talk about your accomplishments. One reason why people usually hate to meet up with old friends is that they just talk about all the great things they have done. If you have accomplished amazing things this is wonderful, but not everyong can be perfect. Probably the best thing to do is to talk about old high school memories. These are memories that everyone shares and can have a good time talking about.

Reconnecting with old high school budies can be a great way to help someone who is feeling down. Some people don't function as well outside of the high school environment and seeing their old friends can really work wonders for them. If you are feeling down about something in your life you might want to try getting together with some old high school friends. This can be a great way to forget your present worries and return to a much happier time.
Although you should return to high school memories when you meet with your old friends, it is also important to be true to who you are. People who stay in the mold of their high school years tend not to grow in any positive way. Don't be ashamed to represent your personality to your old friends, even if it has changed a bit since you last saw them. You can still be good friend even if you have changed a bit. High school can be a superficial time but your reunion with old friends does not need to be. Be yourself and your old friends will enjoy who you have become.
