Relationships are complex, and they take a lot of ingredients. Trust is one of the main ingredients in marriage. Let's take a look at the element of trust in a marriage.

  1. Trust is important. The following are the reasons why:
    • In a relationship you share a close bond, and open yourself up to your spouse. Your spouse is the person you share all of your secrets with. Your spouse is the person who knows you insecurities, and sees you at your worst. Your spouse is the person you spend the most time with. So, trust is critical because when you give someone the amount of information about you, you basically open yourself up to being hurt by that person. If they know your insecurities, they have the potential to prey on those.
    • Because most marriages lead to families. If you have children, and you do not have trust, you can't be effective parents, and you will likely end in divorce, which is never a positive situation for kids.
    • You have to spend time with them. It is never comfortable to spend time with someone you do not trust. You have to watch what you are doing, and saying, and you always feel like you have to be careful not to say something that they could use against you later. This does not make for a good relationship.
  2. How to develop trust in a marriage.
    • Be trustworthy. If you want to develop trust in your relationship you have to be someone that your spouse can trust. How can you expect your spouse to be trustworthy if you aren't. You can't ask your spouse to be faithful if you aren't. You can't ask your spouse to be someone you can rely on, if you aren't reliable.
    • Practice trust. The more you extend trust, and are worthy of trust, the more strong the trust in your marriage will be. The best way to cement the element of trust into your relationship is to practice it. You won' t have it if you do not make it a regular part of your marriage.
    • To develop trust in your relationship you have to do the things that inspire trust in others. For example, you can't lie. You have to follow through when you say you will do something, and you have to be the kind of person you want to trust.

When you work to establish trust, and once you have it, do not make stupid mistakes to get rid of it. If you can't do the things that keep trust, you should not try and make a relationship work. If you are not a trustworthy person, and you can't trust others, a marriage is not for you. However, if you want your marriage to work, then trust is essential. So learn how to be trustworthy, and how to extend trust, and enjoy life.
