Tip #1
The first step would be for a person to decide who they would like to ask on a date. A lot of people may already have someone in mind, but if not they can look around their workplace, school, neighborhood, church, in their group of friends, etc., to find someone they would be interested in taking on a date.
Tip #2
It is a good idea for a person to have a couple of date ideas in mind when they are planning to ask the person on a date. This can be a great way to start up a conversation with the person they want to ask out. For example, the can be discussing the great new restaurant in town, or the concert that is happening the following weekend and if the person acts interested in the cuisine or event this can be a great introduction into the actual asking out. "I was planning on going to that concert, would you like to come with me? Or, I was going to go try out that restaurant this weekend would you like to go with me?
Tip #3
Practicing is a great way for someone to be able to ask a person out on a date. A person can practice either by asking people out on dates or by practicing what they are going to say in the mirror or to a trusted friend or family member.
Tip #4
For most people the biggest fear about asking someone out is the fear of the person rejecting them. The tip for that would be to just go for it. Sure you win some you lost some. Most likely the person will say yes and if they do not it is usually only the end of the world for a day or two. Most people who say no when they are asked out either have a legitimate reason for saying no or they are not worth spending the money on to take them on a date anyway.
Tip #5
There are several ways for a person to ask someone out on a date. They can ask them in person or they can call them on the phone. Of course there are other, less recommended ways that are now available thanks to technology. For example, texting, instant messaging, emailing, etc. While the proper way to ask a person on a date will vary from person to person, it is usually better for someone to ask a person on a date by approaching them in person or calling them. The variety of others ways to ask someone on a date are less formal and should not be used as often. This is especially true if the person is not very familiar with the person they want to ask out.
Tip #6
Try and try again. This tip does not necessarily refer to asking the same person out on a date over and over again; that's usually not a good idea. But it does apply to the person asking. They should not stop asking people out on dates just because a few people said no. There is someone out there for them. Even if the relationship does not go past one date, it is very likely that a person will be able to find someone to go out with them.
