Tips for dealing with a noisy neighbor

During the summer months, it is far more common for your neighbors to throw loud and annoying parties. In these cases, you might lay awake at night wondering how people can play music so loud that late at night or go with so little sleep. On the other hand, perhaps you live in an apartment and your upstairs neighbors are night owls. They do their laundry, wash dishes, vacuum, and exercise after midnight, when most people are sleeping. No matter what your situation is there comes a point when you can no longer deal with those noisy neighbors.

Here are some tips that you can follow to deal with a noisy neighbor.

Tip one:
One thing that you can do is try talking to your neighbors about the noise. When you approach them to talk to them about the noise you do not want to accuse them of anything, nor do you want to rant and rave to them about the late nights. When you talk to your neighbors be calm and cool. Talk to them about how loud the music is and how it is waking you up at night or keeping you awake at night. Make the conversation as casual as possible; hopefully, they will get the hint. If they do not get the hint from the first conversation you can try talking to them again, but this time try the more serious approach.

Tip two:
If talking to your neighbor doesn't work the next thing that you can try, doing is writing a letter to your neighbor. When writing a letter to your neighbor you will want to get straight to the point. Make sure that you keep the letter professional, do not be rude, or make any derogatory remarks in the letter. When you write the letter to your neighbors you are going to want to make sure, you keep a copy for your own records. If your neighbors write you, a latter back make sure you keep the letter in your records. These records might need to be used later on if the issue goes further, perhaps to court or the police get involved.

Tip three:
You can also check your local noise ordinance, you can go down to your local police station to get the information, or you can find it online. In most cases there is going to be a municipal ordinance for your area that limits the amount of noise after a certain time of day. Most often, the noise ordinance goes into effect after 10:00 pm. Also in some cases, the amount of noise is limited to a certain level even during the day. Once you have determined what the law is you can notify your neighbor of the law to see if that helps them curb the noise late at night.

Tip four:
If nothing seems to work with your neighbors, the one option that you have left is calling the police. When you call the police to complain about the noise what will happen is the police will come down to inform your neighbors that they need to keep the noise down. In some cases they will simply issue a warning, in other cases they will issue a ticket. You can call the police as often as you need to when dealing with noisy neighbors.

Tip five:

If it seems like all that you are doing is calling the police, which can get tiresome after awhile, you do have one more option. If you are tired of calling the police about the noise the last option that you have left is talking your neighbor to small claims court for monetary damages or you can go to regular court to seek an order to have the noise stopped. If you decide to go to court you will need to have documentation of the occurrences, and you will need witnesses to back up your case.
