Tips for healthy, happy, long lasting romantic relationships

If you want to have a healthy, happy, long-lasting romantic relationship you have to do the following:
Do not be co-dependent. People who can't function without their significant other do not stand much chance for the relationship working, or at least for it being healthy. The reason is that after a time the inability to act, think, and function for yourself becomes a turn off. So, instead of relying 100% on the other person, enjoy their company, their friendship, their assistance, but also have your own life, your own friends, your own ability to make decisions, etc.

Have fun together. If you want a healthy, happy, long lasting romantic relationship you can't always focus on the bills, the kids, the things in life that require attention, you have to have fun as well. You have to enjoy spending time with one another and do so frequently. What you should do is dedicate at least one evening a week that is devoted to your relationship. This is time that you spend having fun together, no worries about money, school work, job stresses, family problems etc. just a night for the two of you where nothing else in the world matters. It is these kind of nights that make your relationship healthy and happy. It is important to address other issues, but there is a time and a place for everything, and there needs to be a time and a place set aside for fun. So, do this and your relationship will be much stronger, happier, and last longer.
Be open and honest with each other. If you want a healthy relationship you have to start with honesty. If you are intimate, you have to be open about likes and dislikes. If you have problems with each other's family, you have to be willing to talk them out, not ignore them and hope they go away. If your significant other asks your opinion you should be conscious of their feelings but be honest and open with them about your opinion as well. It is important that if you want healthy, happy, and long lasting that you do not hide things from one another, but be true and honest with feelings, emotions, expectations, etc.
Know when to lie! Now you may be thinking this is contrary to having a healthy relationship, but most people consider it love not lies. What is meant is that when your significant other spends all day cooking you a special dinner, even if it tastes like cow manure, you clean your plate and ask for seconds. If she asks you how she looks in a dress she already owns, lie through your teeth if you have to, tell her she is beautiful, not chubby, not anything else. If you are going out and you would be embarrassed by the selection help her find something more appropriate, but do not tell her she looks bad. If he is going bald and is self conscious about it, it is love, not a lie to tell him you kind of like the way he looks with out hair, or that it makes him look tough. Lying at the right times is healthier than telling the truth.
Be faithful. One of the most important things you can do to ensure your relationship is healthy, happy, and long lasting is to be true to your partner. Do not cheat on them, do not even think about it. Just love them, or leave them.
If you can do these things you will find you have a healthy, happy, and long lasting relationship in the making. You just have to remember to find time for one another and forget about some of your more selfish desires.
