The internet is a great way to reconnect with old friends, from high school, college, a place you used to live, etc. There are many ways to reconnect, but the internet is a great facilitator to make it cheap and easy.

The following are some of the various ways you can use the internet to reconnect with old friends.

Social networking sites: There are all kinds of social networking sites out there, and they all offer you the ability to reconnect with old friends. One of the better sites for finding old friends, and still having a semblance of security is Facebook. Facebook has the application ability to let you search for friends in different networks. This means if you want to find friends from high school, you can input the name of your high school and graduating year, and anyone who has a Facebook account that graduated that year from that school can indicate it. The beauty of this is that before anyone can see your information they have to ask your permission to be added, this means if there is someone you don't want to reconnect with, you can block them. In addition you have your home page that allows you to see quick updates and recent activity of people, so you do not have to access their page daily to see if they have done anything new.

  • Skype. Skype is a free way to call friends via the internet. If you call their land lines of cell phones there is a price, but if they sign up for a skype account as well, you can call them via your computer for free. In addition it offers free chatting. So, if you have a webcam you can talk using it and not only hear, but see the person over the connection. People have to allow you to skype with them, but once they do, you can see when they are online, and place a phone call to them, and chat all you want, free of cost. This is a really fun way to reconnect with old friends as it allows you to see them, their family, etc. in the instant.
  • Email. This is becoming the old fashioned way to communicate with old friends, but it is still effective, especially since you can send photos and video attachments and you can keep each other updated with little notes.
  • Instant messaging. This is a fun way to get a conversation going and multitask while doing other things, such as checking your email, or shopping online, etc.

Of course there are many other ways to reconnect, there just happen to be some of the more popular, and free ways, that are easy and fun, and that help you not just get back in touch but stay in touch with just a few minutes a day.
