What your HOA is going to do

If you belong to a homeowner's association, you are paying monthly fees to receive certain services. One of the biggest problems that people have with paying these fees is that they do not think paying them is worth it because they are not seeing any of the services. In order to help understand your homeowner's association you need to have an idea about what kind of services they are going to provide. These services are paid for out of the money that you pay the homeowner's association each month, so if you are unhappy with the level of service being provided you will need to voice your opinion to your homeowner's association.
Here are some common services that are provided by your Homeowner's Association.

Number one: Snow service
If you live in an area where snow is a common occurrence, your homeowner's association is going to provide snow removal service for you. What this means is that you are no longer going to have to worry about shoveling your walkway or your driveway because it will be taken care of for you. They will also ensure that all of the roads in your neighborhood are cleared of snow each time the snow falls. In addition to plowing out all of the driveways and blowing off all of the walkways they will also ensure that salt is put down to prevent ice from forming.
Number two: Landscaping
Your homeowner's association is also in charge of maintaining all of the grassy areas that are considered common grounds. This means that any trees or flowers that are planted in the common areas are the homeowner's association's responsibility. You as a homeowner will only need to worry about your back section, which for most people is a small patio, no grass. If trees die they homeowner's association will hire somebody to come out and remove them.
Number three: Repaving streets
Homeowner Associations are in charge of repaving the streets that are a part of the housing community. This means the driveways and areas where you park are redone on a certain basis. Some associations will repaint the lines each year, while others will only do it as needed. The same with repaving some will do it on a regular basis, while others will let it get to the point of huge potholes. Homeowner associations are also responsible for filling any potholes on the roads.
Number four: Community maintenance watch
This helps ensure that your neighbor's lawns, if they have one, does not become overgrown and full of weeds. The homeowner's association will walk through the housing community and inspect people's lawns and buildings to see if any maintenance needs to be done. They board members will contact the homeowner and let them know what needs to be done to bring their house and yard up to code with the homeowner's association. They will give them a period to complete the repairs and will follow up to ensure that the repairs are made. This means they are doing the dirty work for you and your association gets to benefit by having a great looking neighborhood.
Number five: Garbage
Homeowner associations will often provide dumpsters around the community for you to use as a garbage can. This means that you do not need to worry about having to walk your garbage cans in or out of the house on garbage day. It also means that you can throw away larger items without having to go all the way to the dump and paying a fee at the dump. Some places will also provide a larger dumpster once a year to help with spring cleaning, thus saving you from overloading the other dumpsters and saving a trip to the dump.
